Internal corporate investigations
We investigate potential corporate misconduct, its causes, consequences and the roles of those involved. We prepare findings and recommendations to protect the business and prevent recurrence.
When to engage us
- Missing assets, unexplained payments or transactions of questionable commercial substance have been identified.
- There are signs of employee misconduct, conflicts of interest or collusion with counterparties.
- An employee, partner or other person has reported a concern.
- Information has been leaked or data accessed without authorisation.
- Audit findings require further investigation.
- Facts need to be established before employment decisions, recovery claims or referral to law enforcement.
- There are indications of counterparty fraud.
- You need an independent review of management decisions or employee conduct in connection with possible misconduct.
What we do
Conduct a preliminary assessment.
We assess the information and determine whether a full investigation is warranted. We examine possible misconduct and the causes and conditions that may have enabled it. We identify potential consequences and immediate concerns.
Preserve information and address immediate risks.
We agree preservation arrangements for documents and digital data. We assess the need for access restrictions, segregation of duties and, where legally justified, temporary suspension of individuals whose conduct is under review.
Examine records, transactions and accounts.
We analyse contracts, payments, accounting records, corporate decisions and correspondence. We conduct interviews, test accounts against records and examine alternative explanations. Specialist support is agreed where necessary.
Report the findings.
We distinguish substantiated facts from assumptions, disputed accounts and unresolved issues. We describe identified misconduct, individual roles, potential loss and the review’s limitations.
Recommend further action.
We identify measures to stop misconduct, restore control, recover losses and strengthen procedures. We assess the basis for referral to competent authorities. Implementation support is available under a separate engagement.
How we work
We agree scope, timing, budget, participants and reporting format. We establish the recipients of findings and safeguard independence, including where senior management is under review.
We consider confidentiality, data protection, employee rights and protection against retaliation. Matters requiring an immediate decision are reported before the investigation is complete.
Getting started
Outline the suspected misconduct and the source of the information.
Following a conflict check, we agree transfer of materials and the preliminary assessment.
